Zippo lighters, no matter how old they are, will be replaced or repaired by the company for free if it gets broken. Another special feature of the Zippo lighter is its windproof feature. In fact, it was because of its windproof feature that military Zippo lighters were popular in the United States armed forces.
In fact, during the World War II, a military Zippo lighter formed an important part of the equipment of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Forces personnel. So much involved was Zippo lighters with the war effort that all the Zippo lighters that were produced were sent to the war. And because brass was used for all weapons of war, bowels of the military Zippo lighters were changed to stainless steel. It was only at the end of the war that Zippo lighters were once again produced with traditional brass bowels.
Statistics show that nearly 200,000 military Zippo lighters were used by US military people in the Vietnam War. There is also a story stating that it was a Zippo lighter in the shirt pocket of a soldier that prevented a bullet from entering his heart!
